Stated Purpose:
"to identify and solve the unique challenges of military life."
Year, State Incorporated:
1969, MD
The National Military Family Association (NMFA) advocates on behalf of military families and offers programs that help strengthen military families. The organization's Operation Purple program provides opportunities for military children and families to come together and celebrate their military service. Operation Purple Camps allow military kids to meet other military children facing similar challenges and build resiliency skills during a week of camp. Operation Purple Family Retreats help families reconnect and renew their relationships following deployments or extended separations. Operation Purple Healing Adventures strengthen bonds for families with a service member who has been wounded, ill, or injured. NMFA's Military Spouse Scholarship and Employment Program works to bridge the military spouse employment gap and add to military family financial security by awarding scholarships to military spouses pursuing educational and professional goals. Lastly, the organization reports that its nonpartisan advocacy team, fueled by NMFA's Research and Insights department, works with administration officials, Members of Congress, and key decision-makers to understand the issues facing military families.
