H.E.R.O.E.S. Care meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
"To serve military members and their families before, during, and after deployment in the communities where they live."
HEROES Care provides emergency material and financial support and coordinates free confidential mental health care and job training and placement services through a network of thousands of specially trained caregivers.
Year, State Incorporated:
2007, MO
H.E.R.O.E.S. Care provides emergency financial, material, and other support for military and veteran families in need, acting as a trusted connection between donors who desire to help and members of the military who must adhere to the strict rules established by the Department of Defense. The charity provides financial aid to stop repossessions, evictions and disconnection of utilities; to provide home and vehicle repairs; and to meet other emergency needs through thousands of specially trained caregivers across the Nation. It supplies a network of food pantries open exclusively to military and veteran families. Nearly $14 million in material and financial aid was provided in 2018 alone, including food for nearly 7000 military and veteran family members, more than 400,000 new clothing items distributed through military bases, to units of the National Guard and Reserves and to individual military members and their families; and more than 500,000 diapers and other baby items for Military Moms. For the last five years, more than 150,000 toys and gifts have been provided for military children to help ensure these families had ‘something under the tree’ for their kids. They send thousands of care packages to the deployed each year. Among their awards are the Greater St. Louis United Way Partner Agency Volunteer of the Year Award, the President G.H.W. Bush Points of Light Award, the Challenge Coin of the Secretary of Defense, the Challenge Coin of General Grass of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Conspicuous Service Medal from the Governor of Missouri, the Outstanding Center of Influence Award from the National Guard, the Bank of America Local Hero Award, the Seven Seals Award from the Missouri Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), and the Civilian Service Award from the Department of the Army. They hold a 4 Star Rating from Charity Navigator and Platinum Status from Guidestar, the highest ratings these entities confer on non-profits.
