SOS meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
The mission of SOS is to create a healthier world by connecting communities to life-saving resources and sustainable partnerships.
Year, State Incorporated:
2010, KY
SOS is a global health nonprofit dedicated to improving community health worldwide through three core programs: International Health, Local Health, and Education. Through these programs, SOS also mobilizes critical responses to natural disasters and humanitarian emergencies.
To support its mission, SOS collects surplus medical supplies and equipment from a network of hospitals and healthcare organizations across Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee, and Florida. By rescuing usable medical resources that might otherwise be discarded, SOS reduces waste, diverts materials from landfills, and prepares them for redistribution through its program areas.
Through these efforts, SOS saves lives in some of the world's most underserved regions, helps meet the healthcare needs of local individuals facing financial and insurance barriers, supports community-based social service and nonprofit organizations, and provides hands-on educational opportunities for the next generation of healthcare professionals.
