Stated Purpose:
"to bring a moral voice to the most pressing issues of our time; to bring the wisdom of the Jewish tradition, and the power of the Jewish community to the sacred work of protecting human rights and dignity of all people."
Year, State Incorporated:
2002, NY
Also Known As:
T'ruah: The Rabbinic Call for Human Rights
T'ruah reports that it works towards ensuring human dignity, equality, and justice to life by empowering rabbis and cantors to be moral voices and to lead Jewish communities in advancing democracy and human rights for all people in the United States, Canada, Israel, and Palestinian territories. Programs include organizing rabbis, cantors, and their communities to work for change on issues in the United States, Israel, and Palestinian territories. In the United States, this work includes campaigns for immigration justice, democracy and voting rights, worker justice, and an end to mass incarceration, as well as fighting for racial justice and against antisemitism. Other work includes training rabbinical students to be human rights leaders through a year-long program for students studying in Israel; training rabbis to be human rights leaders through convenings, trainings, communities of practice, and one-on-one support; producing Jewish educational materials on human rights; creating prayers, rituals, and weekly Torah commentaries; and amplifying the voice of rabbis as human rights leaders through op-eds, public statements, and public testimony.
