PTSD Foundation of America meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
PTSD Foundation of America is a non-profit organization dedicated to mentoring our veterans with military related PTSD and their families. Our mission is to combat Post Traumatic Stress; to give back to those who have given of themselves so selflessly; and to increase public awareness of Post Traumatic Stress.
Year, State Incorporated:
2007, TX
Camp Hope Program
Camp Hope provides a safe haven where veterans with mental health and substance abuse issues can begin to heal. An intensive evidence-based 6-month counseling and support program includes peer mentoring with trained staff, behavior modification, recovery programs, workforce preparation, and professional counseling with their collaborative partners. Upon leaving Camp Hope, three (3) full-time Transition Mentors reach out to graduates every two weeks for the first six months, and then monthly thereafter, making sure that the veterans are implementing their transition plans to successful independent living. Camp Hope graduates attend chapter Warrior Groups and support is offered indefinitely. Possibly the best success measurement is each life saved.
Their commitment is to support every program resident with counseling, food, shelter, mental health services, supplies, and access to medical care. Over the past ten years, more than 1,650 combat veterans have taken part in the program at Camp Hope. Both veteran and their family have found healing, help, and hope through the program.
Warrior and Family Group Program
The Warrior & Family Groups offer fellowship where combat veterans and their families (including spouses, parents, siblings, children, and caretakers) can speak openly, sharing their experiences and advice on healing and overcoming trauma. Veterans find hope in discovering they are not alone in their journeys.
The Family group exists to assist and support family members (spouse, parent, sibling, child, caretaker, etc.) of veterans diagnosed with PTSD. The group facilitators lead the group members through ways to manage their own health and mental well-being and bring understanding and healing to their families. The Warrior and Family Group program has facilitated over 250 group sessions with 4,321 attendees and provided over 3,000 in-person individual support meetings in the last year in Houston, Texas.
Veterans Treatment Courts
The Veterans Accountability and Treatment Court (VTC) divert eligible defendants with substance dependency and/or mental illness to a specialized court when charged with misdemeanor offenses. PTSDUSA has existing relationships with Veteran Treatment Courts in most states across the nation.
Community-based and grassroots groups, organizations, and leaders play a vital role in advancing equitable policies, practices, and resources focused on health equity for our veterans. All of our program services are provided at no cost to the veteran.
