Hands On Bay Area meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
"exists to strengthen communities through volunteer action and leadership development."
Year, State Incorporated:
1993, CA
HandsOn Bay Area creates opportunities for people to volunteer, learn and lead in their communities. It strives to provide volunteers with a high-quality experience that fuels further action, and envisions a day when everyone is inspired and equipped to be the change they wish to see in the world.
In 2023, HandsOn mobilized 24,584 volunteers in
approximately 62,000 hours of service to the Bay Area.
HandsOn staff works with over 200 local nonprofits, schools and parks to identify high-impact, group-based volunteer projects. HandsOns projects may meet an ongoing need of an organization or its clients, or they may be one-time, large-scale transformations of facilities or green spaces. it recruits volunteers to get the job done and match each project with a trained Project Leader to ensure that both the community partner and the volunteers are satisfied with the work.
To accommodate busy schedules, it offers programs on weekends and evenings, and through hoba.org, it gives volunteers an easy way to sign up for projects, track their service hours and learn about new opportunities.
HandsOn manages more than 80 direct-service projects a month while offering educational programming to help volunteers become well-informed community leaders. HandsOns leadership training programs allow community members to deepen their knowledge of community issues, develop personally and professionally and learn effective tools to create change.
For corporate clients, it offers comprehensive planning services for employee volunteer events. It works with companies to further their corporate social responsibility goals by engaging their employees in hands-on service
