Food Lifeline meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
Food Lifeline's mission is: feeding people facing hunger today and working to end hunger for tomorrow.
Year, State Incorporated:
1979, WA
Also Known As:
Grocery Rescue Produce for the People Seattle's Table Farm to Food Bank Feeding Hope Feeding Washington Feeding Western Washington Food Frenzy The Foodbank Network
Food Lifeline believes access to food is a human right and that no one should experience food insecurity. We provide assistance to nearly a million people facing hunger each year by sourcing nutritious food from a variety of food industry partners including manufacturers, farmers, grocery stores and restaurants. We distribute this food to a coordinated network of more than 350 food banks, shelters, and meal programs across Western Washington. While its critical to provide food to people experiencing hunger today, Food Lifeline also works to end hunger by addressing its root causes - including poverty, racial inequity and social injustice. We do this through tireless advocacy efforts to shape local, state, and federal policy, and through grass-roots community engagement and mobilization efforts.
Program Highlights include:
Retail & Food Service Partnerships: Making it safe and easy for retail food partners to donate quality, but unsellable, food to the programs right in their neighborhood.
Mobile Food Pantries: Delivering nutritious food directly to people in high-need areas, and communities disproportionately impacted by lack of nutritious food availability.
Sourcing culturally appropriate foods: Deliberately sourcing local, fresh products that expressly meet the needs of people living in those communities.
Coordinating Hunger Relief: Supporting and investing in partner agencies and programs to strengthen the hunger relief system across Western Washington.
