The Food Bank of Lincoln attempts to help solve emergency food needs of the community and reduce food cost of charitable organizations by providing them with surplus or salvage foods. They also make sure that food goes to the ill, needy or infants instead of being discarded. The organization operates exclusively for religious, charitable, educational, literary or scientific purpose. Principal activities include food drives, fund raising, and food distribution. Local food companies are solicited for donations of food and household products. Some cash solicitations and food are requested from the public through special events. Those that are eligible to benefit from the organization's programs are 501 (c)(3) organizations that provide food and other services for the ill, needy and/or infants and children. Member agencies pay a user fee per pound of food obtained to help cover costs, and this fee cannot be passed on to food recipients.
