Stated Purpose:
Be Peace – Be Hope equips under-resourced elementary, middle, and high school students—especially those from underserved, low-income, and minority backgrounds, and the adults who support them with social-emotional education and essential life skills to strengthen well-being and academic success. We create safe, supportive environments where students build resilience, confidence, healthy coping strategies, and compassion to thrive in school and in life. When young people have tools, support, and trusted adults around them, everything changes: learning improves, relationships strengthen, and futures open up.

Year, State Incorporated:
2023, TX

Founded in 2015 under the fiscal sponsorship of the Texan-French Alliance for the Arts (TFAA) and operating as an independent nonprofit since 2023, Be Peace – Be Hope (BPBH) delivers trauma-informed, neuroscience-informed social-emotional education and well-being programming for elementary, middle, and high school students. (BPBH was previously known as Be the Peace – Be the Hope.) Our programs help young people build the life skills that protect mental wellness, develop inner strengths and strengthen success in school and in life: emotional regulation, self-awareness, confidence, resilience, empathy, healthy communication, conflict navigation, supportive decision-making, and project management. They also train and engage the adults around them (teachers, school staff, and parents/caregivers), because students thrive when trusted adults share common tools, language, and practices.
BPBH programs are delivered in schools, after-school programs, and youth-serving settings through age-appropriate workshops and multi-session group series (often 8–12 weeks, as well as yearlong and multi-year partnerships) that combine practical skill-building with simple daily micro-practices. Rooted in neuroscience, mindfulness, positive and emotional intelligence, and healing arts, sessions include grounding and breathing techniques, emotional literacy, stress education (including the survival brain vs. thinking brain”), self-empathy and growth mindset practices, strengths and values exploration, goal-setting, collaborative problem-solving, and relationship skills. We integrate creative and reflective activities (movement, drawing, storytelling, and discussion) to support engagement, belonging, and healthy expression, especially for students who have experienced stress, transition, or trauma. BPBH also offers digital tools that allow students and educators to access the curriculum 24/7, extending learning and support beyond the classroom.

Their goal is to create safe, supportive learning environments where students feel seen and capable, can calm their nervous system, strengthen coping strategies, and re-engage with learning and relationships. By integrating emotional awareness and regulation, potential development, relational intelligence, and civic engagement, they foster learning communities where every student feels valued, belongs, and has tools to truly thrive. By nurturing the whole child, they not only improve academic outcomes, we cultivate a generation capable of protecting the vulnerable, resolving conflict, and leading with integrity. They aim to create a cycle of growth: feeling safe and connected leads to learning, learning builds confidence, and confidence and civic engagement empower students to support others.

They track impact through participation, facilitator observations, teacher and student feedback, and pre/post measures aligned to social-emotional growth and well-being (e.g., self-regulation skills, confidence, peer relationships, and school engagement). BPBHs programming is designed to be accessible, culturally responsive, and practical—helping young people not only feel better, but function better in daily life and contribute positively to their communities.
