Opportunity at Work (Opportunity@Work) supports work hiring processes based on demonstrated skills and past job experiences through coalition building, storytelling, data, and policy design influence. The organization seeks to expand access to career opportunities to STARs (workers Skilled Through Alternative Routes), whose job pathways may be hindered by education and degree requirements. Opportunity@Work reports that it works with the public and private sectors, community-based organizations, and philanthropic partners for the employment advancement of STARs, as well as to shift recruiting practices based on academic credentials and degree requirements towards skills-first hiring. The organization's research provides data-based findings that the role and integration of technology and artificial intelligence (AI) in corporate and public sector spaces could be used to help eliminate biases in recruiting practices and encourage skills-first hiring.
