Classes are offered virtually or in person in 24 locations throughout the Greater Houston Area. Every month HAPS offers 15 professionally led support groups, including general groups as well as for those recently diagnosed, caregivers specifically, and a grief group for those who have lost a loved one with Parkinson's. All support groups are facilitated by licensed master's level social workers.
Licensed master's level social workers also provide client assessments; information and referral to appropriate resources; individual, family and group consultations; home visits; safety checks; and case managemnet services as needed. HAPS provides up to 100 hours of professional in-home respite care per client per year to be used as needed to heal ease some of the responsibilities of familial caregivers. Financial aid up to $500 a year is available for visits to the neurologists' appointments, medications, rent, utilities, groceries, and durable medical equipment for those who qualify. HAPS uses ride share resources to provide free transpotation to HAPS events and doctor appointments.
Education is provided through a monthly newsletter and e-newsletter sent to nearly 5,000 households containing news, current research, and helpful information for the Parkinson's community. Educational programs with presentations by experts on the latest in research, treatment of PD and other Parkinson's related topics are held throughout the year including multiple PD 101 classes for the newly diagnosed and their families.
