Nonviolent Peaceforce meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
"to protect civilians in violent conflicts through unarmed strategies, build peace side-by-side with local communities, and advocate for the wider adoption of these approaches to safeguard human lives and dignity."
Year, State Incorporated:
2002, MN
Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP) works internationally to prevent violence, protect civilians, and promote peace through the use of unarmed civilian protection (UCP). Based in humanitarian and international human rights law, the organization works to solve conflicts within and between communities and countries through nonviolent means. Together, NP and local communities identify risks to safety and create plans for increasing safety and decreasing violence. This can include safety patrols, ceasefire monitoring, fostering relationships across conflict, facilitating humanitarian work, accompanying civilians to safety, training former combatants to use nonviolence and de-escalation, and other protection and peacebuilding tactics. NP currently operates in Democratic Republic of Congo, Indonesia, Iraq, Myanmar, the Philippines, South Sudan, Sudan, Thailand, the United States, and Ukraine.
