The National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome (NCSBS) works nationally and internationally with hospitals, public health, pediatricians, social workers, home visitors, and other similarly aligned individuals and organizations to provide education and resources to families and professionals that will keep babies safe. The organization developed the Period of PURPLE Crying program to equip parents/caregivers and healthcare professionals with evidence-based tools to understand normal infant crying, reduce frustration, and prevent Shaken Baby Syndrome/Abusive Head Trauma (SBS/AHT), the leading cause of physical child abuse deaths. In 2023-2024, the NCSBS reports that over 1,000 healthcare professionals and 800 locations delivered the Period of Purple Crying program to newborn families across the country.
