"to help find missing children, reduce child sexual exploitation, and prevent child victimization."
Year, State Incorporated:
1984, DC
Also Known As:
NCMEC
The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) works with families, victims, private industry, law enforcement, and the public to assist with preventing child abductions, recovering missing children, and providing services to deter and combat child sexual exploitation. The organization is a secondary distributor of AMBER Alerts and provides peer support through its Team HOPE program to families experiencing a missing or exploited child case. The organization receives reports of missing and sexually exploited children through its 24-hour, toll-free hotline (1-800-843-5678) and through the CyberTipline (https://report.cybertip.org/), the national mechanism for the public and electronic service providers to report apparent child sexual exploitation. The organization also provides prevention education and online child safety materials for teachers and parents to use with children ages 5-17. NCMEC reports that its services have expanded to include additional supports for children missing from care, survivors of child sex trafficking, children whose sexually explicit images are posted online, and long-term cases through the use of genetic genealogy.
