Hope for Haiti's Children does not meet the following 2 Standards for Charity Accountability:
Standard 4 (Compensated Board Members)
Not more than one or 10% (whichever is greater) directly or indirectly compensated person(s) serving as voting member(s) of the board. Compensated members shall not serve as the board's chair or treasurer.
HFHC does not meet this Standard because:
- Two out of the eight members (25%) of the board of directors are compensated. One is compensated directly as a staff member, and the board chair is compensated indirectly as the spouse of a paid staff member.
Standard 6 (Board Policy on Effectiveness)
Have a board policy of assessing, no less than every two years, the organization's performance and effectiveness and of determining future actions required to achieve its mission.
HFHC does not meet this Standard because:
- The board of directors does not have a written policy stating that, at least every two years, an appraisal be done assessing the organization’s performance and effectiveness and determining future actions required to achieve its mission.
Hope for Haiti's Children meets the remaining 18 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Child Sponsorship
HFHC reports that $36/month provides a Christian education for an under-privileged Haitian child. Any individual, family, group, or congregation can sponsor a child. Sponsorships provide tuition, books and school supplies, school uniforms, health care, special gifts, and transportation for the sponsored child.
Stated Purpose:
"to demonstrate Christian compassion to poverty-bound Haitian children and their families, providing opportunities for these children to become leaders in their homes, churches, and communities."
