Stated Purpose
"to promote, advocate for and support scientific research as it relates to the causes, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and cure for ovarian cancer; to provide education about ovarian cancer; to promote, advocate for and provide supportive services to persons affected by ovarian cancer; and to foster alliances to further those purposes."
Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (OCRA) reports that it works to advance research to prevent, treat and defeat ovarian cancer and to support women and their families before, during and beyond diagnosis. The organization focuses its work in three areas: funding research, advocating for patients, and supporting survivors. OCRA-funded researchers work to uncover new science to treat, prevent and ultimately cure ovarian cancer. The organization's peer-to-peer patient support program, Woman to Woman, pairs newly diagnosed patients with survivors who have already been through the fight. Additionally, OCRA's patient support helpline helps women navigate their diagnosis and provides support, guidance and resources. The organization hosts the Ovarian Cancer National Conference which brings survivors together to connect, share their stories and learn about new developments in research and treatment. OCRA also advocates for resources and policies, and helps educate future health professionals by bringing survivors into the classroom to share their stories of diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship. In 2018, the organization reports that it helped educate 13,258 medical and healthcare students about the disease, added over 70 ovarian cancer organizations to its community partner network, and launched support service programs at eight new sites.
