The Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF), founded in 1974, is a New York based national organization that protects and promotes the civil rights of Asian Americans. By combining litigation, advocacy, education, and organizing, AALDEF works with Asian American communities across the country to secure human rights for all.

With a population of over 22 million, Asian Americans are the fastest growing racial group in America. We assist more than 10,000 Asian Americans each year through our mulitlingual legal advice and community education programs. AALDEF serves Americans of Chinese, Filipino, Korean, Japanese, Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Laotian, Hmong, Burmese, Indonesian, Nepalese, Thai, and Sri Lankan ancestry. The people we represent are predominantly immigrants, low-wage workers, and individuals not yet proficient in English.
AALDEF has a staff of 16, including 9 lawyers. More than 300 volunteers, including attorneys from major law firms and legal services offices, community workers, and students, assist AALDEF on cases, outreach projects, special campaigns, and events every year.
AALDEF is supported by foundations, corporations, special events, and individual donations.
