Center for Conflict Resolution meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
The Center for Conflict Resolution's mission is to work with individuals, communities, courts and other institutions to manage and resolve conflict.
Year, State Incorporated:
1978, IL
Mediation Services:
Mediation is different than going to see a judge or an arbitrator. At CCR we do not make decisions for people. We use mediation to help people find a solution that works for everyone involve.
CCR offers both in-person and virtual mediations with Zoom. Our in-person mediations are held at our downtown office near the Art Institute.
Early Resolution Program:
The Early Resolution Program (ERP) was started in early 2021, with planning efforts underway quickly after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. It began to prepare for expected major increases in eviction and consumer debt cases during the pandemic. It has grown and developed into a model program that is being duplicated across the country.
The Early Resolution Program gives eviction and consumer debt cases an alternative to court. It provides free legal services, mediations, case management, and more. ERP is provided through Cook County Legal Aid for Housing and Debt (CCLAHD), the Circuit Court of Cook County, the Chicago Bar Foundation, and Chicago-area legal aid organizations.
Training:
CCR facilitates the program with dedicated and highly trained staff as case managers and certified mediators. ERP staff work within all Cook County municipal court districts. The program is virtual. CCR's ERP staff serve people in multiple courtrooms at the same time.
CCR's hands-on, practical approach to mediation training ensures participants actively develop conflict resolution skills and techniques.
Upon completion, participants have the necessary skills to mediate in a wide variety of real-world situations. CCR offers mediation classes to anyone who wants to learn the art of mediation. Participants and trainers in our program come from diverse professional backgrounds such as law, social work, psychology, HR, non-profit and corporate management.
