Stated Purpose:
To provide Christ-centered programs and services for the homeless and those in need.

Year, State Incorporated:
1942, IN

As the ‘front door to homelessness’ in Indianapolis, Wheeler Mission meets the short-term needs of those on the streets by providing a nutritious meal, a hot shower, a clean bed, and case management services to those in the most need. However, the goal for Wheeler Mission has remained the same since its creation over 129 years ago; to equip everyone served for lasting success. Staff encourage guests to pursue a long-term program to begin unpacking and addressing the root causes of their homelessness. Programming includes assistance in addressing addiction, job-training, developing life skills, and access to education (just to name a few). The curriculum is faith-based and holistic and comes with access to not only a case manager, but also extensive counseling and an opportunity to connect with a variety of other community resources. There is not a ‘one size fits all’ approach to addressing homelessness, so programming and services are designed to address the unique challenges of every individual served.
