The Center for Women and Families meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
Together, we disrupt the cycle of intimate partner and sexual violence.
Year, State Incorporated:
1912, KY
The Center serves all victims of intimate partner violence and sexual assault, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, skin color, native language, immigration status, ethnicity, ability or economic class. All services are provided free-of-charge to all clients, both those who are in residence as well as those living in the community. The agency's programs and services include emergency shelter, safety planning, legal and medical advocacy, counseling, financial literacy, hospital advocacy, and therapy. The Center operates a 24- hour crisis line with trained crisis counselors who provide assistance, referral, and advocacy to all callers, including LMPD officers who have responded to domestic violence calls. Together the officer and the crisis counselor assess victims' risk of lethality and ensure shelter for those at high risk. Additionally, Center staff are engaged in activities dedicated to preventing violence. They work in high schools, colleges and universities, and with community-based initiatives. The Center for Women and Families serves 9 counties (7 counties in Kentucky and 2 in Southern Indiana) with a population of 1.3 million people in the Metro Louisville area.
