Stated Purpose:
The Art Therapy Project (TATP) is a nonprofit providing group art therapy in a safe inclusive space for people in need of mental health services. Clients feel connected and inspired while exploring their personal journeys, increasing their self-awareness, and improving their quality of life. We partner with two dozen other nonprofit organizations to work with a wide range of populations including war veterans, system-involved youth, individuals with substance use and addiction challenges, the LGBQTIA+ Community, and survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse as well as frontline and essential workers.

Year, State Incorporated:
2010, NY

TATP’s programs are conducted in small group sessions with participants with a shared common experience, such as past abuse or being a war veteran. Each group meets weekly for 60 or 90-minute sessions at our studio or at a program partner's site. The art therapist offers participants supplies provided by TATP, and clients create a piece of art - a drawing, a sculpture, a collage, a painting - that can be completed either during a single session or over several sessions, individually or as a group. During the creative process, the therapist observes and engages clients in processing and developing their imagery, while participants are encouraged to speak openly and gain support from each other in a safe and trusting environment.
