Sunshine Ministries meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
"To provide high quality Christian social services to the poor and needy of St. Louis by offering healing from the past, help for the present, and hope for the future."
Year, State Incorporated:
1918, MO
Founded in 1903, Sunshine Ministries has been serving the needs of men, women and children in St. Louis for more than 100 years. Its outreach includes a homeless shelter and addiction-recovery program for men, social services and educational programs for families, and several programs for at-risk youth.
The Residential Shelter provides housing as well as practical life-skills classes, educational and vocational training, and spiritual encouragement for homeless men. It is committed to creating a caring community in which its residents will experience meaningful relationships that can nurture their God-given potential and prepare them to live a productive and responsible life.
The Family C.A.R.E. Program serves approximately 200 families living in impoverished conditions. These families are provided with basic food and household needs through its pantry and Community Closet. They are also able to attend life skill classes and special holiday dinners and events. The youth programs serve 130 kids, age 2-16. The programs include Sunshine School, a year-round preschool that focuses on personal attention and academic training. Each summer the elementary age youth and teens are able to attend camp at Eagle Lodge, its camp in Foristell, Missouri. During the school year, these kids attend Sunshine Saturdays, a monthly event to keep them connected. Sunshine Saturdays include special holiday parties, a school supply giveaway and a book fair.
