Store to Door meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.

Store to Door supports independent living for Portland area seniors and people with disabilities by providing an affordable, personal, volunteer-based grocery shopping and delivery service.

Store to Door is the only volunteer-based grocery shopping service designed to meet the needs of homebound seniors and adults living with disabilities in Oregon. Store to Door’s volunteer-based program helps seniors and people with disabilities receive the foods, medications, household items and social connection necessary to lead healthy lives in their own homes. Unlike recipients of prepared meal services, their clients choose what they eat. Choice affirms the customers’ dignity and independence, while ensuring that the items they need to be healthy and comfortable are accessible. They are able to manage their own budget and access nutritious foods that fit their dietary or cultural needs or restrictions. Store to Door is the only service in Oregon authorized to utilize clients’ Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits on their behalf.

Store to Door leverages the power of volunteers and community partnerships to provide a service that is both efficient and effective. Volunteer order-takers call clients on Mondays and Tuesdays to collect their grocery lists. Volunteers and corporate partners complete the shopping on Wednesdays and Thursdays at the Hollywood (Portland) and Beaverton Town Square Fred Meyer stores. Drivers then make deliveries on the same day. Deliveries are routed to give drivers time to pay a friendly visit with each client. During the COVID-19 pandemic, drivers make no-contact deliveries and maintain social distancing while visiting with clients. When necessary, Store to Door makes referrals for additional free or low-cost in-home services provided by their community partners.

Over the last five years, Store to Door has doubled its grocery delivery service and increased the number of clients served by 83%. Today, Store to Door serves nearly 700 clients in Multnomah and Washington Counties in Oregon, with the support of 1,500 volunteers who contribute thousands of hours annually, building meaningful relationships with their clients and ensuring they have access to the food and household items they need to remain safely and independently in the setting of their choice.
