Serving People in Need meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
Our mission is to restore Orange County’s families and individuals in crisis to self-sufficiency.
Year, State Incorporated:
1991, CA
SPIN's housing program, GAPP, offers vital financial assistance and support to help house families with children experiencing homelessness. At the core of GAPP is comprehensive case management and support services, which are designed to address the underlying challenges that have contributed to a family's current circumstances. SPIN collaborates closely with clients to identify and implement solutions, such as job development, counseling, budgeting, credit repair, and additional resources, empowering families to achieve long-term stability and success.
Serving People In Need (SPIN) plays a vital role in supporting families with minor children who are experiencing homelessness. Through the Family Services Navigation program (FSN), SPIN help these families access essential housing assistance. As a member of the Family Solutions Collaborative (FSC), SPIN operates as an open Access Point (AP) for the Central Service Planning Area (SPA) within the Orange County Coordinated Entry System (CES).
At the heart of the GAPP Housing Program are SPIN's case management and support services. By the end of 2024, 96% of the families we assisted with rental support and case management remained stably housed. SPIN takes a holistic approach, addressing underlying challenges and offering resources to promote self-sufficiency, including job development, counseling, budgeting, credit repair, and more.
SPIN's dedicated Family Services Navigation team works closely with families to guide them through the process of connecting to eligible housing resources. SPIN assists in completing referrals for emergency shelter and housing opportunities via the Family Coordinated Entry System (FCES), ensuring that families are effectively routed and prioritized for available housing options. By providing this crucial support and access to services, SPIN helps pave the way toward stable housing for families in need.
The Street Services Program was SPIN's first program initiated in 1987. Years later, Street Services continues to provide hundreds of meals each week and distributes hygiene kits, warm clothing, blankets, sleeping mats, referrals to shelter and other special requests to the homeless.
As from the very first, the Street Services program is supported by SPIN's dedicated volunteers who prepare and deliver meals to local shelters. Individual volunteers, corporations, and community groups conduct clothing drives, make or collect blankets, and collect hygiene items to be distributed at various locations.
SPIN is committed to providing food support to families in need. In 2024, SPIN served over 2,000 individuals through our pantry, food drives, and gift cards, ensuring that families had access to essential household goods and nutritious meals. And on the 3rd Tuesday of every month, SPIN runs a drive-thru distribution event as part of The Emergency Food Assistance Program, where members from the community are offered both perishable and non-perishable food items.
Throughout the year, especially during the holiday season, SPIN partners with faith-based organizations, businesses, individual volunteers, and community groups to bring joy to the families we serve. Thanks to the generosity of their donors, SPIN provides Easter baskets, Thanksgiving meals, Christmas gift sponsorships, birthday gifts, extracurricular activity subsidies, and fun events designed to brighten the lives of those in need.
