SEARCH Homeless Services meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
SEARCH Homeless Services pursues a mission of providing hope, creating opportunity, and transforming lives. Since 1989, SEARCH has been dedicated to helping homeless men, women and children move from the streets into jobs and safe, stable housing.
Year, State Incorporated:
1988, TX
SEARCH Homeless Services was founded in 1989 by a group of concerned citizens and community volunteers in response to Houston's growing homeless population. The organization began as a day shelter offering basic support services including showers, laundry, and hot meals to address the needs of individuals living on the streets. As more families with young children became homeless, SEARCH's House of Tiny Treasures was added in 1992 to provide daycare and early childhood education.
Over the past 30 years, SEARCH's programs have evolved and expanded in response to the community's needs, and we've become the leading organization in Houston helping homeless individuals take action, build a healthier life, and regain their independence. Moving beyond the provision of basic services that merely manage the problem to providing services that solve the issue, SEARCH's strength now lies in the effective engagement and case management of clients, equipping them with the tools and resources necessary to improve their health, increase their income, exit homelessness, and achieve stable, self-sufficient lives.
For the year ended June 30, 2025, SEARCH Homeless Services's program expenses were:
| Housing plus | $7,186,559 |
| Engagement and stabilization | $2,756,146 |
| Education child | $1,552,936 |
| Family services | $1,005,782 |
| Total Program Expenses | $12,501,423 |
