Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
"to screen, treat, save, and restore sight and hearing in partnership with Lions Clubs, in order to prevent blindness and deafness for those in need."
Year, State Incorporated:
1959, OR
Oregon Lions Sights & Hearing Foundation (OLSHF) reports that it provides vision screenings, financial assistance, and hearing assistance for children and adults. The organization’s school vision screening program partners with local Lions Clubs, school districts, nurses, and local health professionals to detect vision problems before they become serious. The organization’s Lions Eyeglass Assistance Program (LEAP) and its LEAP Optical Finishing Lab provides low-cost eyewear for adults and children in need. OLSHF’s Low Vision Clinic (LVC) offers comprehensive low vision exams for children with severe visual impairments throughout Oregon. The organization’s ROAR! Hearing Assistance Program leverages OSHLF’s and volunteer’s partnerships to offer hearing aids for Oregonians with a gross household income at or below 200% of the poverty level. OLSHF’s Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center (LERC) collects old eyeglasses and then has them cleaned, calibrated, and repaired by participants in Coffee Creek Correctional Facility’s Paraoptometric Training and Eyeglass Recycling program. The recycled glasses are then distributed on OLSHF’s sight missions around the globe, including Vietnam, Mexico, Australia, and parts of Africa. In 2023, the organization reports that it screened 162,879 students for vision health issues, distributed 16,312 recycled eyeglasses, made 2,344 eyeglasses in its LEAP Optical Finishing Lab, and distributed 161 hearing aids to people in need.
