Northwest Compass meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
We enhance our community by providing emergency services, education and empowerment which foster personal responsibility for those who are vulnerable or in crisis.
Year, State Incorporated:
1985, IL
Northwest Compass, Inc. is a non-profit organization in Mount Prospect, IL that provides crisis intervention programs and services to over 65 communities in the Northwest Suburbs of Cook County. We are a partner with the Alliance to End Homelessness and work to provide housing and comprehensive supportive services to low-income individuals and families, providing the only walk-in center in the community for people in crisis.
We offer Housing Programs for a variety of populations including youth aged 18-24, victims of domestic violence, Military Veterans, Seniors, and newly arrived immigrants. We operate under a Housing First Philosophy which focuses on securing housing for someone in crisis before addressing any additional needs the client may have.
Our dedicated housing staff provides one-on-one housing counseling that is tailored to the individuals needs, case management, rapid re-housing, permanent supportive housing, homelessness diversion, landlord mitigation, street outreach, and other services.
We assist those experiencing food-insecurity with our on-site food pantry open 5 days a week. We also make monthly food deliveries to 3 local high schools, assist over 60 families each month with food deliveries, provide food pick-up to schools needing additional support for their families, and offer plentiful holiday meal pickups for all clients.
We pride ourselves on being able to offer essential wrap-around services on top of housing assistance. Many people seeking housing services often need additional support. The wrap-around services we offer include money management counseling, career coaching and job readiness support, life skills groups, connection to mainstream benefits, referrals for mental health and substance abuse services, access to emergency supplies such as clothing, diapers, toiletries, and PPE, limited legal aid, and more.
As an organization, we are committed to getting clients on a path to stability, self-empowerment, and independence.
