Lutheran Family Services Rocky
Mountains is a faith-based, non-profit, human services agency founded in 1948
that offers a variety of programs and services throughout Colorado and New
Mexico, as well as limited services in Utah, Wyoming and Montana. The
organization provides support, guidance and resource navigation to individuals
and families regardless of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation or age.
LFSRM meets the critical social and emotional needs of approximately 30,000
people annually.
Refugee and Asylee programs help
people who have been uprooted by persecution and violence work toward
self-sufficiency through resettlement services. Immigration and legal services
aid refugees and immigrants with legal status adjustments and citizenship. And
welcome and reception services assist families released from detention
facilities after being processed by U.S. Customs and Border Control, with basic
needs and travel assistance to get to their chosen destination.
Family-based foster care programs
focus on helping children and youth remain safe, healthy, connected and
educated while they are in out-of-home care. LFSRM is the lead agency in Colorado
providing foster care services to Unaccompanied Refugee Minors who have lost
their parents and family due to war or unrest, assisting URM youth by placing
them with culturally appropriate families, supporting educational attainment,
teaching important self-sufficiency skills, and assisting with integration to
the U.S while supporting youth to maintain connection to their cultural
heritage.
The Lifework Aging Solution program assist older adults with diminished decision-making
capacity due to neurological conditions through guardianship services to
improved quality of life through end of life. In additional to acting as
guardian for individuals who have no viable decision makers, the organization
also assists families caring for loved ones with diminished capacity through
the guardianship process and provides ongoing assistance in navigating the
transition of ageing with a neurological impairment. The program also provides
limited care management and other services to assist older adults and families
to navigate and redefine aging.
The Adoption program at LFSRM
provides all option pregnancy counseling to birth parents in Colorado, as well
as open domestic, designated, and international adoption services for all types
of families. The program also provides relinquishment counseling to families
who are in the midst of dependency and neglect proceedings and facing
termination of parental rights.
Parent support and education programs
at LFSRM are designed to strengthen families and prevent child maltreatment.
These programs include parent education utilizing evidence based SafeCare and Nurturing Parent curricula, emergency
respite care, family visitation and safe exchange services, SafeTouch body safety programming in
schools, and the Fostering Healthy Futures preteen mentoring and skill building
program.
