Human Services Council Of New York meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.

Stated Purpose:
HSC strengthens New York’s nonprofit human services sector, ensuring all New Yorkers, across diverse neighborhoods, cultures, and generations reach their full potential.

Year, State Incorporated:
1993, NY

Government Relations and Advocacy - HSC builds and maintains relationships with elected and appointed State and City officials to educate and increase the understanding of government leaders about the struggles nonprofits face.

Convening Stakeholders, Recruiting Allies and Building Coalitions – HSC creates and convenes coalitions and campaigns to ensure the voice of human services is heard. By engaging stakeholders and unlikely allies, HSC increases the power of human services nonprofits.

Improving Sector Visibility and Recognition – To Influence policies, the general public must be in support of proposed changes; yet there is often a lack of recognition of the contributions the human services sector makes to society and the communities we serve.

Human Services Sector Capacity Building – Many nonprofits mistakenly believe that they cannot advocate for themselves or their clients because of 501(c)(3) rules. HSC corrects this misconception by offering trainings and information on what organizations can and cannot do while lobbying. HSC helps its members engage in and understand key issues by sharing timely information and analyses of policies that affect their work and clients.

Disaster Preparedness and Resiliency - HSC helps the human services sector with the unique challenges presented to them during the times of disaster, response, and recovery.
