Stated Purpose:

Helping Hands Hawaii (HHH) reports that it works to solve immediate financial needs, overcome language barriers, increase food security, and keep families housed. The organization’s Community Clearinghouse program offers free household goods, such as furniture, cookware, bedding, toiletries, and financial assistance for housing and utilities to families, as well as empowerment training to improve their futures. The organization's Ready to Learn program provides school supplies to children from kindergarten through high school across Hawaii. HHH’s Bilingual Access Line provides spoken interpretation and written translation in over 250 languages to improve access to resources for individuals with limited English proficiency. Interpreters are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and use linguistic and cultural expertise to bridge the language barrier between individuals and businesses or service providers. The organization’s Representative Payee Services supports individuals experiencing long-term illness, disability, or other impairments in managing their Social Security benefits and providing reliable and timely bill payment services. HHH also liaises with the State of Hawaii’s Department of Human Services to help families experiencing food insecurity understand the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) eligibility requirements and supports in the application or renewal process. In 2023, the organization reported it served 7,205 people through its Community Clearinghouse, 3,628 through its Bilingual Access Line, supported 2,007 through SNAP outreach, and provided Representative Payee services to 540 individuals.
