Haven of Grace meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
The Haven of Grace provides a safe, nurturing
and educational environment for pregnant, homeless women and their children as
they strive for self-sufficiency and become a family in the community.
Year, State Incorporated:
1992, MO
For nearly 30 years, The Haven of Grace has been dedicated to serving a vulnerable population of homeless, pregnant women ages 18 and up and their children. The Residential Program begins in the Maternity Wing of The Haven where up to 10 mothers, and any children they currently have, are cared for with food, shelter and basic needs as they prepare to deliver a healthy baby. While waiting for delivery and afterwards, each young mother learns parenting skills, employment techniques and other life skills, while some also pursue formal education (diploma, G.E.D., college or trade school). From there, the new family may move to The Havens transitional apartments – the Quad – where they continue to stabilize themselves while remaining connected to the services and resources offered by The Haven. Residents of these fully furnished apartments pay a nominal, monthly program fee and are encouraged to continue to participate in the Residential Program offerings which assist them in strengthening the knowledge, skills and resources they need. From the Quad, residents move into their own stable housing in the community. These families are then considered in The Havens unique 10-year Aftercare Program which provides a range of services to support the familys continued efforts towards self-sufficiency and preventing another instance of homelessness. A total of 13-years of services and contact by The Haven of Grace provides each woman who comes to The Haven of Grave a high probability of breaking the cycle of poverty for herself and her children.
