H I T Foundation meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.

Stated Purpose:
"We will champion affordable housing in Preble County at all income levels."

Year, State Incorporated:
2003, OH

Also Known As:
Home is the Foundation

Inspiration for Home Is the Foundation occurred when our founder was driving home in late 2002. She was reminded that there are people in our small community that live in poverty. She wondered how many children lived in those homes and how poverty and inadequate housing affected their lives. The vision that “Everyone in Preble County should have a safe and affordable place to call HOME” was born.
Our first program at H.I.T. Foundation began in 2003 as a way to increase affordable housing options in Preble County.  We now own and manage 50 rental units at rates below Fair Market Value! Beginning in 2013, the Senior Home Repair Program became our second program. H.I.T. Foundation is committed to keeping seniors safely in their own homes for as long as possible by providing, emergency home repairs, proactive handyman services and essential accessibility modifications.  This program is funded by donations, grants, and volunteer work.  Since the Senior Home Repair Program began, over 1,000 jobs have been completed at no cost to qualified Preble County seniors! In 2015, our Homeless Services Program quickly expanded to offer rental assistance and homeless prevention programs before opening the Preble County Emergency Homeless Shelter. The shelter remains staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Clients receive case management, 3 meals per day, showers, and laundry facility access. There are 10 beds in separate men’s and women's dorms. As Preble County’s housing advocates, we strive to give our community a voice concerning housing issues, and we believe that combining services and referrals, with education and support, fosters stability, empowering our clients and building community one family at a time.
