Criminal Justice Ministry meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
CJM seeks to serve, not to judge, by improving the safety and well-being of individuals affected by crime and the criminal justice system, their families and their communities in the Greater St. Louis Area through person-to-person assistance rooted in Jesus Christ's inclusive ministry of love, reconciliation, and hope.
Year, State Incorporated:
2013, MO
Programs CJM programs and activities address four needs: 1) the need for human connection CJM staff and volunteers serve incarcerated persons in 4 prisons and 10 jails plus others via mail through one-on-one visits, classes/tutoring, services, programs, retreat days, pen pals, "dress-out" clothing for persons to be released, and Kairos inside with Potosi prisoners. (Total contacts = 13,789) 2) basic needs when released Over 300 are released into the St. Louis Area every month--and most are ineligible for services for the poor. So CJM provides to the extent funds are available Welcome Backpacks, Entry Essentials (hygiene items, underwear, socks, bus tickets, etc.), support groups, Vital Papers (e.g., birth certificates), and Anger Management Classes. (Total services = 4,556) 3) long-term help with community connection For many who have served long terms or had additional trauma as veterans, two long-term supporting housing programs are offered: Release to Rent and R2RVets. (Total individuals served for at least one year = 112) 4) education and collaboration CJM educates community groups about the challenges of the criminal justice system and the needs of persons returning to the community. CJM also collaborates to address related issues within the city and state, working with STAR (St. Louis Alliance for Reentry) and Empower Missouri (formerly -Missouri Association for Social Welfare). ( Total contacts 22,734)
