Community Women Against Hardship (CWAH) offers the following programs for low to moderate income families struggling with poverty issues. The aim is to improve their living environment that includes selections from its warehouse of furniture/appliances and household items. It offers a clothing boutique to provide new and slightly used apparel to all family members. The food pantry is also available once a month. Parents have an opportunity to enroll in at least 3 classes to improve their status: "Soup For The Soul," group discussions with a family therapist; computer training, job readiness, ending with a job fair; nutrition and fitness training through partnership with the University of Missouri - St. Louis College of Nursing; Career Assessment & Counseling also through the University of Missouri St. Louis, Financial Literacy & First Time Home Buyer Workshops, Youth Enrichment programs; Fine Arts, Youth programs are offered in music education - The Institute for the Advancement of Jazz Study and Performance, for beginner and intermediate students, Entrepreneurship Classes with youth 5th through 12th grades, and a Non Violent Youth Summit. CWAH offers social engagement opportunities, e.g., tickets to the theatre, baseball/football games etc. The Show-Me-Series offers travel opportunities for students and their parents enrolled in its summer programs, where they have visited historical sites in Washington DC., Kansas City, MO, Chicago, IL, Memphis, TN, Henning's, TN, Atlanta, GA, and Springfield, IL to enrich their lives with history, visit college campuses and involvement with cultural activities.
