Bethany House Of Nassau County Corp. meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
Bethany House provides a safe place for healing and personal growth for women, and women with children, experiencing homeless. It is built on a foundation of community support to provide a continuum of care, from uncertainty to stability. Through our partnerships, we provide the women in our programs with trauma informed services, in-house and community-based health services, and case management focused on securing educational and employment growth opportunities and a path to permanent housing and self-sufficiency. We strive for our guests and their children to experience a sense of self-worth and belonging in response to their experience with our dedicated staff and volunteers.
Throughout its forty-four years, Bethany has provided safe, supportive emergency housing and support services for homeless single women and women with dependent children. We carry this out through a three-step approach. We offer programs which provide a continuum of care that starts with emergency shelter and meeting the basic needs of guests in a welcoming, safe, and home-like setting; moves into transitional services and housing; and culminates in permanent housing and greater self-sufficiency and ongoing support.
Year, State Incorporated:
1987, NY
For over forty years, Bethany House has been evolving as a program that moves homeless women, and women with children, in Nassau County from uncertainty to permanent housing. We have provided emergency shelter, case management services, and nutritious meals in our three beautifully furnished homes with a capacity of 55 beds in total. Over the past year, we have advanced our mission beyond the provision of shelter in an emergency to a level that aims to interrupt and break the cycle of homelessness, through a three-step approach entitled, "Safe Ground for Families Transitional Services." We offer programs which provide a continuum of care that starts with emergency shelter and meeting the basic needs of guests in a welcoming, safe, and home-like setting; moves into transitional services and housing; and culminates in permanent housing and greater self-sufficiency and ongoing support. With grant funding from individuals, corporations and foundations, as well as partnerships with universities, we are able to provide on-site counseling services to address underlying trauma and other barriers to success; establish a relationship with several vocational/educational programs to enhance basic employment skills; provide residents with laptops or tablets and high speed wireless connections to access education courses, search for jobs, and improve technical skills; and establish connections with high quality day care centers to support the safe development of their children.
