Basket of Hope meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
"To provide hope and encouragement to children suffering from cancer or other serious illnesses through the delivery of a Basket of Hope filled with toys, games, craft items, music, gift certificates, and more. A Hope Tote filled with inspirational books, Bibles, journals, and music is given to their parents upon their consent."
Year, State Incorporated:
2017, MO
The Basket of Hope began in St. Louis in 1995 and works closely with local hospitals to schedule personal visits and gift deliveries to over 1,500 seriously ill children and their families each year. The program offers personal visits from volunteers and local celebrities to deliver a Basket of Hope for the child and his/her siblings; and to deliver a Basket of Hope Tote for the parents/guardians. The gifts contain toys, games, craft and educational items, stuffed animals, gift certificates from area businesses, jewelry, and more for the child and gifts for the parents that offer items to nourish them physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. The family gift is valued at more than $300. Families are continually supported throughout the year with meals, invitations to local events, extra gifts during the holidays, and more.
The Basket of Hope has expanded beyond St. Louis and now serves over 35 hospitals nationwide. Obtaining the help of professional athletes and coaches to assist with the personal deliveries of the baskets has been impactful in the growth of the program. Each year, during Super Bowl week, the program delivers hundreds of Super Baskets of Hope to children in hospitals in the Super Bowl city and beyond.
