Stated Purpose:
To serve the
immediate, unmet needs of children and adults challenged by hardship or
violence, strengthening our community while fostering dignity, confidence, and
hope.
Year, State Incorporated:
1996, WA
Assistance League of the Eastside
is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization. Since 1990, Assistance League of
the Eastside has:
- Clothed over 53,000 students from the Bellevue, Lake Washington and
Northshore School Districts.
- Assisted over 25,000 survivors of assault across Washington State.
- Provided hope for more than 8,000 homeless women and families.
- Helped more than 8,000 individuals to find the strength to begin a new
life, free from domestic violence.
Since 1990, over $6 million has been returned to the community.
Programs and services offered include:
Operation School Bell® - Assistance League of the Eastside supports the
belief that new school clothing, school supplies, books, groceries and
medication help increase self-esteem and confidence, contributing to a strong
foundation for a child's successful school experience. Each year, members
distribute Fred Meyer vouchers for up to 3000 students in need, selected by
school personnel, from the Lake Washington, Bellevue and Northshore school
districts.
Assault Survivor Kits® - Assistance League of the Eastside helps to restore
dignity to survivors of assault by providing essential personal care items
and new clothing to replace items retained as evidence by law enforcement
officers. Volunteers prepare and deliver the kits to 56 hospitals throughout
Washington state where they are distributed by emergency room staff.
Community Outreach/Volunteer Engagement:
Help4Homeless - Assistance League of the Eastside works together with local
agencies to provide daily living items and support to individuals and
families experiencing homelessness. The Help4Homeless program is committed to
assist those without permanent shelter as they move through this difficult
time. Women Inspired Network works in a similar manner with other agencies.
Starting Over Support - Assistance League of the Eastside provides baskets of
basic household items for individuals and families fleeing domestic violence,
enabling them to begin new lives in safe, violence-free housing. Volunteers
prepare and send the baskets to domestic violence emergency shelters in King
County.
Assistance League Outreach - Assistance League of the Eastside collaborates
with other local agencies to help in the short term to fill specific unmet
needs in its local community in a timely, responsive and flexible way.
