Serves 1 in 5 Alameda County residents and provided 39.5 million pounds of food, the equivalent of 33 million meals in FY20 with a target of more than 52 million pounds for fiscal year ending June 30, 2021— procured from purchased food, donations, and USDA. This food reaches communities in all parts of the county through its network of 364 partners including food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and, other community organizations – as well as COVID emergency response partners, schools, home delivery and other direct distribution programs. Distribution in FY20 included 19 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables.
The Food Bank’s approach also includes connecting families to CalFresh (SNAP/food stamps) through application assistance and case management; racial equity, policy and advocacy efforts to create and protect legislation and programs that benefit low-income individuals and ensure they can access healthy food; and nutrition initiatives that make a positive impact on the health of the entire community. Volunteers contributed over 100,000 hours in FY20 primarily preparing and distributing food.
