A Hand Up Community Resource Center meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
A Hand Up Community Resource Center is a faith-based organization dedicated to closing the divide between individuals facing economic challenges and the vital resources necessary to enhance their standard of living.
Year, State Incorporated:
2017, KY
It is a widely recognized fact that a deficiency in understanding sound financial management is a fundamental contributor to poverty. A Hand Up is strongly dedicated to providing education in effective money management to both adults and children, fostering the development of essential financial skills.
The primary objective of its financial empowerment programs is to provide financial education that helps individuals develop the necessary skills that lead to financial independence. It accomplishes this by offering a six to eight-week long incentivized program for adults during the spring and fall, along with a specially tailored program for youth during the summer. Participants gain knowledge and hands-on-simulated exposure to various wealth-related topics such as budgeting, saving, banking, consumer credit, debt elimination, investing, and home ownership. Because youth violence is so prevalent in the community, it also focuses on youth violence prevention measures as well as nutritional education.
A Hand Up’s ultimate goal is to break the cycle of poverty so prevalent in the community by instilling a desire in each program participant to become more responsible and knowledgeable about managing their finances.
