Passionist Earth & Spirit Center meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
To cultivate transformative learning and service opportunities dedicated to mindful awakening, compassionate justice, and care for the Earth.
Year, State Incorporated:
2007, KY
The Passionist Earth & Spirit Center is a nonprofit, interfaith spirituality center that helps individuals cultivate deeper connections with themselves, with others, and with the natural world, for the purpose of transformative learning that leads to service and healing. This three-fold mission focuses on contemplative practices like mindfulness meditation, integrated with active work on social justice and racial equity issues, as well as environmental stewardship. This work takes place mainly at the Earth & Spirit Center’s 27-acre campus in the Louisville Highlands, which features hiking trails, wetlands, vegetable gardens, rain gardens, pollinator gardens, food forests, and more. The Center is the largest provider of mindfulness instruction in the Central U.S., providing both in-person and online instruction, with an extensive program that offers free instruction programs for underserved community members and local schools. It partners with dozens of other organizations, such as the Louisville Urban League and Trees Louisville, to help build compassionate, socially just, and environmentally sustainable communities. The Center also offers extensive programming for youth and young adults – with an emphasis on participant diversity – including summer camps, retreats, leadership programs, field trips, service-learning projects, and ecology internships. Finally, the Center is home to the Institute for Applied Mindfulness, which helps other organizations – nonprofit, for-profit, educational, and governmental – integrate mindfulness into their organizational culture.
