Operation Access meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
Operation Access
connects people facing barriers to care with surgical and specialty services
donated by local health providers to advance health equity.
Year, State Incorporated:
1993, CA
Operation Access
coordinates outpatient surgical and specialty care that prevents serious
complications and life-threatening cancers for medically underserved, uninsured
residents of Northern California and the Central Valley. We leverage the
generosity of our partner health systems and private practices to donate
medical care to our patients. Our partners and volunteers offer medical
expertise at no cost to vulnerable people. Because of our services, our
patients are able to return to their productive lives, resulting in profound
positive impacts on them, their families, and their communities.
We provide services in
over 10 specialties, such as general surgery, gastroenterology, gynecology,
orthopedics, ophthalmology, and more. Procedures such as hernia repair,
cataract removal, and colonoscopies help prevent complications, resolve pain,
restore functionality, and prevent cancer.
Our patients face
structural inequality and health disparities based on income, immigration
status, race, and language. Many fall into a “coverage gap”: earning too much
to qualify for Medi-Cal, but less than what is considered a living wage, and
not enough to afford insurance. Even among those eligible for Medi-Cal, many
are deterred by long processing times or fear of public-charge or immigration
enforcement consequences.
Our
culturally competent and bilingual staff members communicate fluently in the
first language of our clients. By streamlining the complex logistical details
involved in matching eligible clients with medical specialists, scheduling,
interpretation, and transportation, we allow medical volunteers to focus on
patient care. For every $1 spent by Operation Access, we deliver over $7 of
donated medical care: an efficient model of health equity that moves care
upstream of the emergency department.
For the year ended December 31, 2024, Operation Access's program expenses were:
| Specialty Health Care Program | $21,544,061 |
| Total Program Expenses | $21,544,061 |
