National Kidney Foundation of Michigan meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.

Stated Purpose:
To prevent kidney disease and improve the quality of life for those living with it.

Year, State Incorporated:
1955, MI

More than one million people in Michigan have chronic kidney disease and most of them don’t know it. That’s why prevention is such a key focus for the NKFM. When CKD is caused by uncontrolled diabetes or high blood pressure, the progression to kidney failure can often be prevented or delayed with early diagnosis and healthy lifestyle changes. The NKFM offers a number of prevention programs to help people at risk in Michigan, including teaching kids about how good nutrition and physical activity can keep them healthy to how adults and seniors can lower their risk of developing diabetes and kidney disease through the Diabetes Prevention Program. Additionally, the NKFM significantly helps people who have already experienced kidney failure. We know the many challenges that exist for people needing life-sustaining dialysis or transplantation. Our programs range from emergency assistance and peer support to scholarships and Kids Camp. We also support people by helping them manage their disease and set personal goals.
