Stated Purpose:
"The Children's Nutrition Program of Haiti's (CNPH) mission is to help raise a healthy generation of Haitian children, who can in turn raise Haiti from poverty."

Year, State Incorporated:
2004, TN

Also Known As:
Kore Timoun

Structural weaknesses, natural disasters and drought, inflation, political instability, and now a global pandemic all pose significant threats to the health and nutrition of Haitian women and children. As a result of these barriers, Haiti's neonatal, infant, child, and maternal mortality rates are the highest in the Western Hemisphere.

One in five Haitian children is chronically malnourished and 1 in 14 children die before their 5th birthday. CNPH is working to change that. It is seeking to reduce childhood mortality & morbidity and improve the nutritional status of children and women through three primary types of interventions: Community Mobilization and Empowerment, Growth Monitoring and Health Promotion, and Therapeutic and Clinical Care.

For over two decades, CNPH, known locally as Kore Timoun, has worked to prevent and treat malnutrition in the Region des Palmes, Haiti. Its Monitrices (community nutrition workers) provide vital community education in nutrition and hygiene. In 2019,it also empowered health committees and women's groups in 13 communities, leveraging their potential to be more proactive in their collaboration with the local health system through the health district office, particularly with regard to nutrition and hygiene.

In 2019, Monitrices conducted 26,962 child malnutrition screenings and 3,644 maternal malnutrition screenings. It provided outpatient care for 129 children suffering from severe acute malnutrition and 192 children suffering from moderate acute malnutrition. Additionally, it supported inpatient care for 60 children suffering from severe acute malnutrition with life-threatening complications.
