Utah Open Lands meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.

Stated Purpose:
Our mission is to preserve, protect and steward open space in order to maintain Utah’s natural heritage and quality of life for present and future generations.

Year, State Incorporated:
1990, UT

Land Conservation: The importance of perpetuity begins with the crafting of the conservation easement and a full understanding of the conservation values and the public benefit of each landscape under consideration for conservation. Every year Utah Open Lands continues considering, investigating, discussing and negotiating multiple projects at a time. Stewardship: Utah Open Lands’ stewardship division monitors over 100 of our protected properties every year. Our role in monitoring these projects is to ensure their compliance with the conservation easement that governs these landscapes. Utah Open Lands’ reports identify the trajectory of the conservation values to ensure the conservation purposes are protected. UOL works with state and local agencies and landowner to improve public access, ecological and wildlife health, scenic values, and public trails. Education: UOL is committed to working with landowners and communities interested in ensuring the protection of the lands they love; from working landscapes, ecological refuges, to heritage values and the “sense of place’ as described by Wallace Stegner’s vision of quality of life. Annually UOL provides leadership and presentations, virtually and in person, from law school guest presentations to town and county councils and local community meetings.
