Olmsted Parks Conservancy meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
Olmsted Parks Conservancy’s mission is to restore, enhance, and forever protect Louisville’s Olmsted-designed parks and parkways, connecting nature and neighborhood while strengthening the community’s well-being. Its vision is to elevate its parks to bring the restorative power of nature to all.
Year, State Incorporated:
1989, KY
Olmsted Parks Conservancy raises funds for capital investments in the historic Olmsted Parks System. It further enhances Louisville’s Olmsted-designed parks and parkways through advocacy, park activation and programs, and biodiversity work that promotes sustainable natural areas. Since its inception, the nonprofit has overseen over $50 million of investment into the Olmsted Park system. The scope of work includes the Team for Healthy Parks, a crew that promotes biodiversity and enhances park amenities. Initiatives include invasive species removal, wildlife studies, tree plantings, and more. The team builds on the basic park maintenance conducted by Louisville Parks and Recreation to ensure that Olmsted-designed parks are the premier parks in Louisville and maintained at a higher level that would be possible with the parks department alone. Olmsted Parks Conservancy also engages in advocacy, working with government agencies and neighborhood groups to ensure that Olmsted parks serve the unique needs of each community. Programs include park activation events that make the parks vibrant and welcoming. The nonprofit values diversity in all its forms for the same reason the organization values biodiversity in the parks: it makes communities more resilient, sustainable, and vibrant. Olmsted Parks are an intrinsic part of Louisville, and, as an organization striving for inclusivity, it commits to fostering diversity and respect both in nature and neighborhoods.
