Climate Solutions meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
Climate Solutions' mission is to accelerate clean energy solutions to the climate crisis. Our vision is a thriving, equitable Northwest, powered by clean energy, inspiring the transition to sustainable prosperity across the nation and beyond.
Year, State Incorporated:
1980, WA
Also Known As:
Alliance for Jobs and Clean Energy
Climate Solutions has a 22-year track record of building
momentum for local, state, and regional action on climate change through
strategic leadership, policy advocacy, bold communications and powerful
coalitions. Since 1998, Climate Solutions has leveraged the unique strengths
and assets of all of the Northwest’s most effective climate efforts for maximum
impact. Working with a robust community of partner organizations in various
sectors, Climate Solutions provides strategic leadership, policy expertise,
field organizing, business engagement, communications outreach, administration
and fundraising support for many of the region’s top climate campaigns. Climate
Solutions is a founding member of the Climate Alliance for Jobs and Clean
Energy, the Renew Oregon coalition, and the newer Clean and Just Transportation
coalitions in both Oregon and Washington.
Climate Solutions aims for the Pacific Northwest to be the
first region in the nation to transition away from fossil fuels and toward 100%
clean energy. Their approach:
1. Target the three largest sources of emissions.
2. Electrify everything, especially transportation and buildings.
3. Ensure that the electricity that powers us is 100% clean.
Their programs are organized around these three areas:
electricity, transportation, and buildings:
100% Clean Action and Implementation: Climate
Solutions will secure strong, equitable policies in Oregon and Washington on
the path toward 100% clean electricity.
Clean and Equitable Transportation: Climate Solutions
will advance a comprehensive campaign to aggressively decrease the Pacific
Northwest’s transportation emissions in an equitable manner.
100% Clean Buildings: Climate Solutions will
accelerate the transition to clean buildings and help Pacific Northwest
communities to transition away from fracked gas in our built environment.
To drive public policy change faster and to foster more private innovation, Climate Solutions works primarily to pass and implement policies at the state level in Oregon and Washington using the tools of advocacy, research, communications and organizing outreach. Climate Solutions works in the state legislatures, with utility commissions and regulatory agencies, at times directly with voters on initiatives, and with cities and counties to drive down pollution and increase solutions at the local level. Our statewide leadership position in both Oregon and Washington allows Climate Solutions to play a coordinating role across the region. Strategically, Climate Solutions aims to create models of partnership and action that can be replicated in other states and regions. We are connected to partners across the nation to share information and make sure that the impact of our regional actions are felt far beyond our borders.
