Stated Purpose:
Friends School is a nonprofit, nonsectarian, cooperative school. Its mission is to provide an inclusive, noncompetitive, student-centered, dynamic educational program where individual differences are respected and celebrated.

Year, State Incorporated:
                            1991, KY
Since its inception, Friends School has operated with inclusion as the core of its mission. As an inclusive school serving students ages infancy through 8th grade, it does not segregate students with special needs into self-contained classrooms, but rather, the entire student population is fully integrated into the classroom setting, and are encouraged to learn, contribute, and participate in all aspects of school life together. The goals of a Friends School education are that every student feels a sense of belonging, meets high expectations, develops meaningful social relationships, and gains an appreciation for diversity and equality. About 40% of students have identified disabilities, including but not limited to, autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, anxiety, emotional and behavioral disorders, and other developmental delays. Through this program, developmentally appropriate instruction is provided, along with individualized classroom support, and increased resources are provided for students with moderate to severe challenges. This integrated, motivating approach deeply engages the student and nurtures a love of learning, personal growth, and involvement in the world. Friends School serve and make a meaningful difference in the lives of students and families that were unable to be served by other programs in the Louisville community. With small class sizes, highly educated and experienced teachers, an engaged and innovative special needs team, and a commitment to meeting each child’s individual needs, Friends School is a unique learning community.
