The Don Harrington Discovery Center programs are designed "to create moments of discovery that reveal the inner workings of our world" and serve the informal science educational needs of the neighboring rural communities as a scholastic adjunct. DHDC provide hands-on and engaging learning opportunities 6 days a week during the school year and 7 days a week in the summer for guests of all ages. More than 150 exhibits rotate on and off the floor along with traveling exhibits each year. The Space Theater & Portable Planetarium offers a 180-degree screen that takes visitors to places under the sea and beyond the stars. Education Partnerships allow schools unlimited visits during the school year, 1 Family Science Night a year and outreach programs that provide on-campus science demonstrations and labs. DHDC's state-of-the-art HD video conference system provides live, interactive streaming of programs around the globe, while the Rural Educator Program offers current programing on campus in the TX Panhandle. DHDC regularly hosts fun and educational events for children and adults throughout the year as well as summer camps and birthday parties. DHDC serves residents, educators, and students of the Texas Panhandle (pop. of 427,927) and its neighbors in the surrounding four-state regions of New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas & Oklahoma. It has served an average of 128,748 guests per year since 2009, ranging in age from under 2 to senior citizens.
