Cooperative for Education meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
To break the cycle of poverty in Guatemala through education.
Year, State Incorporated:
1997, OH
Cooperative for Education (CoEd) provides educational resources and opportunities that empower Indigenous Maya schoolchildren in Guatemalas Central and Western Highlands to break the cycle of poverty through education. To enable Guatemalan youth to achieve social mobility, CoEd manages 4 core programs: 1) the Textbook Program, 2) the Technology Program, 3) the Spark (Early Literacy) Program, and 4) the Rise Youth Development Program. The organization provides textbooks in the areas of math, science, social studies, and Spanish to middle schools in rural Guatemala, which communities then sustain through an innovative revolving fund model and use to improve their quality of teaching and learning for generations to come. Technology centers are made accessible to students (using the same revolving fund model), providing them with opportunities to develop digital literacy and technical skills crucial to securing higher-paying jobs after graduation. The Spark Program helps primary-school children become competent and enthusiastic readers by providing their teachers with books, materials, and training in best practices for early literacy education. Finally, the Rise Program supports middle- and high-school students through academic scholarships and training in the areas of leadership, professionalism, and life skills development Finally, the Bridges Program increases international understanding of Guatemalas rich culture and its development challenges, empowering people in developed countries to heed the call to service.
For the year ended December 31, 2022, Cooperative for Education's program expenses were:
| Rise | $839,223 |

| Bridges | $566,475 |
