Breakthrough Cincinnati Inc meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
Breakthrough Cincinnati (BTC) facilitates an energizing, four-year college-preparatory summer learning experience for high-need and high-potential middle school students while inspiring and training college-aged students as the next generation of teachers.
Year, State Incorporated:
1992, OH
Starting in 5th grade, students participate in a continuum of programs that occur throughout the summer and school year. BTCs mainstay program is the annual Summer Scholars Program. For six weeks, rising 6th-9th students engage in rigorous coursework, engaging community activities, social-emotional learning workshops, and college and career exposure. The program aims to retain students in the program for 4 consecutive years so that they are readily prepared for high school and equipped with a college-bound mindset. BTC stays engaged with students during the school year with the School Year Program, where they participate in tutoring, advisory meetings, career exploration through Super Saturdays, and fun community events. BTC aims to retain students once they have completed the Summer Scholars Program through the College Bound Program. Students grades 9th-12th are given the tools and resources to apply to college through ACT prep, resume-building, college application and financial planning workshops, mentorship from undergraduate students, and college visits.
BTC aspires to build a network of support for participants so they learn and grow academically, personally and professionally in order to reach their full potential. We energize underrepresented aspirational students to enter college with confidence. They are taught and nurtured by relatable, service-oriented young adults and encouraging families. Our safe and inspiring space operates to advance education, equity, and economic mobility in Cincinnati.
